Port Drayage & Transloading

Port drayage and transloading at three import gateways

Containers off the terminal and into the building on our own equipment — then transloaded, cross-docked or consolidated without a second provider in the middle.

Drayage is where import programs succeed or fail on cost, because it is the one leg where demurrage, per diem and chassis charges accumulate while nobody is watching. Regal drays into its own buildings at the Northwest Seaport Alliance terminals in Tacoma and Seattle, at Los Angeles and Long Beach, and at the Port of Charleston. Because the warehouse and the drayage are the same company, the container gets pulled when the door is ready rather than when a third party gets to it. Outside these three hubs, AppiaWay brokers drayage capacity through its own carrier network.

What the service covers

Terminal to door, and what happens next

01

Container drayage

Import container pickup from terminal to our facility, and export moves back to the terminal against the cutoff. Appointment management, chassis provision and terminal fee handling are ours to manage, not yours to chase.

  • Import pickup and export return moves
  • Terminal appointment scheduling
  • Chassis provision and management
  • Demurrage and per diem exposure monitoring

02

Transloading

Ocean containers stripped and reloaded into domestic trailers, converting international container configurations into loads built for domestic linehaul. On long-haul programs this recovers a meaningful share of the freight cost that container-on-chassis moves give away.

  • Ocean container to domestic trailer transload
  • Floor-loaded to palletized conversion
  • Load optimization for domestic linehaul
  • Direct-to-retailer transload where volume supports it
03

Cross-docking

Freight received and shipped without going to storage, for volume that is already committed to a destination when it lands. The container is unloaded, sorted to outbound and staged the same day.

  • Same-day receipt to outbound
  • Sortation by destination or retailer
  • Pool distribution to regional destinations
  • Retail-compliant labeling applied in transit
04

Container consolidation and deconsolidation

Multi-supplier import consolidation and destination deconsolidation, including buyer’s consolidation programs where several vendors feed a single container.

  • Import deconsolidation by purchase order or vendor
  • Export and buyer’s consolidation
  • Container freight station handling at Fife
  • Multi-vendor receipt reconciliation
05

Customs-bonded handling

Regal holds U.S. Customs-bonded warehouse and Container Freight Station designations at Fife, so cargo can be held, examined and released under bond without leaving the operation.

  • U.S. Customs-bonded warehouse space
  • Container Freight Station (CFS) designation
  • In-bond movement and held-cargo handling
  • Customs examination support

Common questions

Which ports do you dray from?

The Port of Tacoma and the Port of Seattle through the Northwest Seaport Alliance, the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, and the Port of Charleston.

What is the difference between transloading and cross-docking?

Transloading moves cargo from an ocean container into a domestic trailer, usually to improve domestic freight economics. Cross-docking moves freight from inbound to outbound without storage, usually because the destination is already known. Both are available at all three hubs.

Do you provide your own chassis?

Chassis provision and management are handled as part of the drayage service.

Are you Customs-bonded?

Yes. Regal holds U.S. Customs-bonded warehouse and Container Freight Station designations at the Fife, Washington facility.

Can you dray into a warehouse you do not operate?

The economics of the service come from drayage and warehousing being the same operation. Moves into third-party facilities are considered case by case.

Can you dray outside Fife, Anaheim or Charleston?

Regal's own equipment drays into its three owned hubs. For ports or lanes outside that footprint, AppiaWay, Regal's freight brokerage operation, arranges drayage capacity through its carrier network.
